The image of "Theotokos Deesis" (from Greek δέησις "prayer") is part of the magnificent Deesis tier. This is one of the most powerful prayer iconographies, where the Blessed Virgin Mary appears as the main intercessor for humanity before God.

The Theotokos is depicted half-length, in a prayerful posture, dressed in a dark brown maphorion adorned with golden assist and a cloth. In her left hand, she holds a scroll with the words of a prayer: "O most merciful Master, Lord Jesus Christ, Son and my God, incline Your ear and hear the prayer of Your Mother...", with which she addresses her Divine Son.

The icon is painted with egg tempera on a wooden board with an ark (a recess on the front side), covered with white gesso. The halo and details of the clothing are gilded. The face and hands are particularly delicately and beautifully rendered: over an olive sankir, smooth ochre with a light blush and white highlights. The deep shades of the vestments and the soft light of the face are characteristic of the academic and folk traditions of the 19th century, emphasizing the spiritual warmth of the image.

The gaze of the Theotokos is full of humility and love, making this image ideal for a home prayer corner or a central place in the dwelling.
